Our Merlot begins firm and brambly, but softens to reveal a lovely core of red fruits. This 2009 is loaded with classic blackcurrant and black olive interest, and will improve for at least 10 years.

Merlot struggles a little in our vineyard, with the smallest vine canopies of any variety, light open bunches and small berries. These are packed with flavour, colour and tannin, making wines that ooze chocolate-cherry fruit and can become a little too tannic if not carefully managed in the winery. Time in barrel is very important for softening the wine. Several years in bottle really help make the wine more succulent too.
